'Match Game' moved for 1-hour newscast
KCBS Los Angeles is expanding its Channel 2 local 5 p.m. newscast to an hour, effective Feb. 1, sources said Tuesday. As expected (Daily Variety, Dec. 29), the hourlong broadcast will air from 4:30-5:30 p.m., and will retain the present anchor team of Linda Alvarez, Larry Carroll, Steve Rambo and Jim Hill. CBS brass have been mulling the move for some time. There was speculation that KCBS would opt for a half-hour report from 4:30-5 p.m., instead of the full-hour newscast. CBS’s Los Angeles O&O dumped its 4 p.m. local news hour in April 1996 as part of a major overhaul of its late after-noon/early evening lineup. The new lineup includes “The Howie Mandel Show” from 3-4 p.m., “Inside Edition” from 4-4:30 p.m., and the expanded newscast, which replaces syndie skein “Match Game,” currently in the 4:30-5 p.m., sources said. The gameshow will be reskedded for another timeslot.
