Mouse partners with India's Sterling

NEW DELHI — Disney is preparing to launch a 24-hour, all-cartoon channel in India this year. The channel will be launched in partnership with C. Sivasankaran’s Sterling Group.

The $25 million, five-year distribution deal is still in negotiation, and Disney’s exact launch date in India depends on the passage of new direct-to-home satellite broadcasting laws.

The channel would target children ages 2 to 11 and their families, and is expected to feature exclusive animation and original series, movies and made-for-TV specials.

Disney has an existing joint venture in India, Walt Disney Consumer Products, with the Modi Group.
