‘Curtis’ on KW bench

Strip fetes often-quoted legal expert

As gavelers dominate the syndie marketplace, King World hopes to enter the fray with “Curtis Court,” in development for fall 2000.

The half-hour strip features former California prosecutor James Curtis, who has appeared as a legal expert on shows including ABC’s “World News Tonight,” “Dateline NBC,” MSNBC’s “Internight” and CNBC’s “Rivera Live.”

Curtis spent 10 years as a prosecutor in California’s criminal justice system before stepping down this year. He has toured as a motivational speaker, created the consulting firm the Justice Project Inc., and continues to sit on the California State Bar Assn.’s board.

“We believe that his strong presence and unique style of judging with authority and understanding will distinguish ‘Curtis Court’ from other shows in this genre and make it one of the most compelling offerings for the fall 2000 season,” said Roger King, chairman and co-CEO at King World.
