Applegate post-‘Today’ host

Peacock to strut strip

Ending months of speculation, NBC Tuesday announced plans for a post-“Today” show news-info skein anchored by Jodi Applegate.

The hourlong weekday strip, the joint brainchild of NBC News and NBC Entertainment, will run on NBC-owned stations starting in September and is also expected to be offered to affils. Program is tentatively titled “Later Today,” and is intended to take advantage of the huge lead-in the 7-9 a.m. breakfastcast provides to NBC stations.

Applegate, who now co-anchors the weekend editions of “Today” and appears regularly on MSNBC, will be the lead host for the program, but could be joined by other on-air anchors.
