AMC ringing in 2000 with Stooges shorts

Whoopi to host 'Mayhem Festival' on Classics cabler

NEW YORK — American Movie Classics will ring in the new century with “Millennium Mayhem Festival,” a New Year’s Eve marathon of 30 Three Stooges shorts hosted by Whoopi Goldberg.

The four-hour event will kick off at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve and will repeat in its entirety on New Year’s Day, beginning at noon.

The shorts are part of the 130 digitally remastered, uncut classics recently licensed by AMC from Columbia TriStar Television Distribution. Beginning in January, AMC will showcase the Three Stooges in two-hour programming blocks, Saturdays and Sundays at 8 a.m.

CTTD owns the shorts with licensing rights granted by C3 Entertainment, which manages the Stooges property. C3, which the Three Stooges founded as Comedy III Prods. in 1959, exec produced the shorts.
