Veteran television producer Virginia Moseley has been named exec producer of the ABC News Sunday morning program “This Week With Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts,” ABC News president David Westin announced Monday.
Moseley replaces Dorrance Smith, who was pushed out as exec producer in September. Moseley has been running the program since that time.
“Virginia is an accomplished television producer with a keen understanding of national politics and of Washington. I have enormous confidence in her ability to move this broadcast forward as we head into a very important political year,” said Westin in a statement.
Moseley has served as senior producer of “This Week,” overseeing guest booking and all aspects of production on the Sunday morning broadcast, since 1994.
Prior to joining ABC News, Moseley spent 10 years as a producer in the CBS News Washington bureau.
National ratings for “This Week” have been underperforming since David Brinkley, host since 1981, handed the reins to Donaldson and Roberts in 1997.
For the week ending Dec. 5, “This Week” earned a 2.6 rating, 8 share, against NBC’s “Meet the Press,” which won the Sunday morning public affairs race for the 70th week in the row, with a 3.6 rating/2 share. CBS’ “Face the Nation” came in third place with a 2.2 rating/7 share.
