Norman Lee Howell

Norman Lee Howell, an operating engineer who worked on several films and TV series, died Aug. 23 of cancer at his home in Wrightwood. He was 59.

Howell worked as an operating engineer, a heavy equipment operator, on the sets of many projects. He was also an actor, appearing in the 1972 John Wayne starrer “The Cowboys.”

Howell, the founder of the California Junior Rodeo Assn., used his wrangling skills in Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” music video.

He is survived by his parents, two sons, two daughters and nine grandchildren.
