DreamWorks Records has tapped record industry vet Mel Posner as head of international.
The widely expected nod to the former overseas chief of Geffen Records signals a beefing up of DreamWorks’ international presence.
Posner’s hire also marks the first in a series of appointments at DreamWorks, which will include former Warner Bros. Records prexy Steven Baker.
“Mel’s experience in the international record business is truly exhaustive,” said DreamWorks co-captain Mo Ostin, to whom Posner will report. “His understanding of how the global marketplace is developing will be of enormous value to our artists in the years to come.”
Posner is already familiar with DreamWorks’ slate of acts, as the label’s releases were funneled through Geffen’s pipeline. As a result, he can hit the ground running in the new role.
“I expect nothing but great things for DreamWorks artists as the company expands its operation overseas,” Posner said. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with these talented performers and … look forward to sharing future challenges with them.”
The nod also reunites Posner, one of the architects of the WEA distribution system and longtime Warner music family exec with DreamWorks co-captain Lenny Waronker and founder David Geffen.
