Michael Jackson has picked Honolulu’s Aloha Stadium as the venue to perform in a New Year’s Eve Millennium show, which German promoter and producer Marcel Avram said will pay the self-proclaimed King of Pop more money than any other artist performing that night in the United States.
Avram would not say exactly how much Jackson will earn for the Dec. 31 concert.
“Michael felt he should perform in Hawaii at the millennium because it’s the last chance and place in the United States where an American can enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Avram said in a telephone interview from Germany.
The event at Aloha Stadium is expected to include two other groups, and last from late afternoon to well-beyond midnight. Details of the event, including ticket prices, will be announced soon, Avram said.
Avram said he and Jackson have signed the contract for the millennium show.
Jackson also will perform New Year’s Eve in Sydney, Australia the day before the Hawaii concert, thereby beginning and closing the millenium New Year’s Eve, Avram said. Australia is 20 hours ahead of Hawaii. Jackson has been under contract for the Sydney performance for some time, Avram said.
