Epic Records Group has tapped Steve Barnett as worldwide marketing czar, hoping to beef up the use of global marketing strategies to tout its artists.
In the new post, Barnett will assume the title of exec veep of worldwide marketing and be charged with directing and overseeing the marketing efforts behind releases on the Epic Records and 550 Music labels.
“It has become a necessity in the current marketplace to launch new releases with a single, integrated global strategy that clearly delivers the artist’s vision and imaging in order to establish them on a worldwide stage,” Barnett said.
Barnett will also oversee the international efforts for albums bowing through the Epic Records Group, which also includes the Work Group label.
“Steve’s ability to see the global picture, based on his extensive background, makes him perfectly suited for this new position,” said Polly Anthony, prexy Epic Records/550 Music and to whom Barnett will report. “He engenders the qualities it takes to initiative specific marketing plans, which he can tailor to ensure a worldwide presence for our artists.”
Barnett’s ascension from senior veep of worldwide marketing for the Epic label, follows a lengthy tenure as an artist manager guiding the careers of AC/DC, Cyndi Lauper and Foreigner, among others.
