Elsie F. Samuelson

Elsie F. Samuelson, director and co-founder of Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center, died Nov. 26 of cancer in New Rochelle, N.Y. She was 72.

A native New Yorker, she and her husband, Carl, founded Stagedoor in the Catskills in 1976. At Stagedoor she co-produced over 641 shows featuring such thespians as Robert Downey Jr., Jennifer Jason Leigh, Mary Stuart Masterson and Natalie Portman.

Samuelson was former president of the Bronx chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women was also active in Women’s American ORT and the City of Hope.

She is survived by her husband, Carl, two daughters and three grandchildren.

Family suggests donations in Samuelson’s name be made to Women’s American ORT, 212-505-7700.
