Masayuki Imai’s “The Winds of God” is set to be reincarnated Off Broadway at the American Place Theater. Drama presented by Intl. Cultural Prods.’ Kazuto Ohira and the Elle Co. will run Sept. 7-Oct. 31.
Imai will direct and star in the legiter, which was translated from his original Japanese script by Yuko Florence Yumokawa.
Fast-paced “Winds” centers on two Tokyo comedians transformed into WWII kamikaze pilots after being killed in a present-day motorcycle crash. Thoughts of mortality and self-sacrifice brought on by a looming suicide mission and the brutality of the war undermine their casual urbanite demeanor.
The English version of “Winds,” which first appeared in 1991, was last performed in 1998 at the Judith Anderson Theater.
