'Mystery' thesp makes debut in Lindsay-Abaire play

NEW YORK — Janeane Garofalo will make her stage debut in David Lindsay-Abaire’s new play, which opens Off Broadway in spring 2000 at a theater to be announced.

Lindsay-Abaire described the as-yet-untitled project as a comedy “about a woman desperately trying to escape a world of squelched dreams, equipped with little more than a sliver of hope and brazen caustic wit.”

Christopher Ashley, who directed “Jeffrey,” helms; Mosaic Entertainment produces. Headed by Jon Steingart and Jenny Wiener, Mosaic is also readying Kenneth Lonergan’s “The Lobby” for an Off Broadway run beginning in November.

Lindsay-Abaire’s play “Fuddy Meers” opens this season at the Manhattan Theater Club.

Garofalo is repped by David Rath of Messina-Baker Entertainment; Lindsay-Abaire by John Buzetti of the Gersh Agency; Ashley by Patrick Herold of Helen Merrill Ltd.; and Mosaic by Nancy Rose of Schreck, Rose & Dapello.
