Jerry Zucker is in final negotiations to direct “Rat Race,” an ensemble road comedy for Paramount Pictures.
The film concerns a group in Las Vegas that wins the opportunity to participate in a race from Vegas to New Mexico. There are no rules, and the winner gets $2 million. The film will be reminiscent of such road comedies as “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World” and “Cannonball Run.”
The studio is finalizing the deal in hopes of starting production late this year or early next. Andy Breckman wrote the script and also penned the comedy “Toddlers,” another priority Par project.
Pic will be produced by Jerry and Janet Zucker and Sean Daniel. Jim Jacks, Daniel’s partner at Alphaville, will be executive producer.
Although he was recently attached to direct “A Course in Miracles” and “In Your Dreams,” those films have not begun production; Zucker’s last directorial efforts were “First Knight” and “Ghost.” He’s repped by CAA.
