Starting next week, North American exhibs will screen a trailer touting the March 26 Oscarcast, to whet the appetite of holiday filmgoers.
Chuck Workman created the one-minute teaser, which shows memorable moments of past Oscarcasts.
As usual, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences will release a trailer in February that highlights this year’s nominees, but the December-January teaser trailer is an innovation.
“Because the 2000 Oscars will be the first Academy Awards of the two-thousands, we want to remind fans in a visually stunning way that Hollywood’s biggest night is just around the corner,” Academy prexy Robert Rehme said in a statement.
The trailer was previewed to the press this month (Daily Variety, Dec. 10). Richard D. and Lili Fini Zanuck will produce the Billy Crystal-hosted ceremony, which will air live from L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium on ABC.
