TORONTO — Wayne Wang’s “Anywhere But Here” and Peter Kassovitz’s “Jakob the Liar” will have their world premieres at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival gala showings, fest programmers announced Tuesday.
The Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman starrer “Anywhere But Here” is based on a novel by Mona Simpson. In the dramedy, a mother drags her daughter from small-town Wisconsin to Beverly Hills.
In “Jakob the Liar,” Robin Williams is a Jewish cafe owner in Nazi-occupied Poland who risks his life inventing radio news bulletins about Allied advances to keep up the spirits of the ghetto inhabitants. Drama also stars Alan Arkin, Liev Schreiber and Armin Mueller-Stahl.
The Toronto Intl. Film Festival runs Sept. 9-18.
