Brno cinema kicks off chain

BRNO, Czech Republic — Ster Century has unveiled the first of five multiplexes due to open in Eastern Europe over the next six weeks.

The 14-screen, 3,030-seat Brno cinema, outfitted with large screens, state-of-the-art technology and Ster Century’s own patented seats in stadium format, is part of the impressive new Olympia Shopping Center in the regional capital.

Following the Oct. 13 Brno gala, Ster Century opens an 11-plex and a 14-plex in Budapest on Oct. 28 and Nov. 11, respectively, a nine-screen in Wroclaw, Poland, on Nov. 7, and a 13-plex in Warsaw in late November.

Company’s plan will see 44 plexes with 610 screens in Europe by mid-2003. Four countries in Central Europe are targeted for 18 multiplexes.
