Soundmixing noms unveiled

Cantamessa to receive career achievement nod from C.A.S.

“Saving Private Ryan” and “From the Earth to the Moon” are among the pics nominated for the Cinema Audio Society Awards for outstanding achievement in soundmixing for movies and television.

The awards will be presented at the 35th Annual C.A.S. Awards Banquet on March 6 at the Universal City Sheraton Hotel.

Nominees in the feature film category are: “Armageddon,” “The Horse Whisperer,” “The Mask of Zorro,” “Saving Private Ryan” and “The X-Files.”

Nominees for telefilms, miniseries or specials are: “From the Earth to the Moon” (Part 12), “Mama Flora’s Family” (Part 2), “The Rat Pack,” “The Temptations” (Part 1) and “Winchell.”

Nominees for an episode of a television series are: “Ally McBeal” (“Making Spirits Bright”), “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (“Lover’s Walk”), “Chicago Hope” (“100 and One Damnations”), “ER” (“Exodus”), “JAG” (“Gypsy Eyes”) and “NYPD Blue” (“Heart and Souls”).

Veteran production mixer Gene Cantamessa will receive the Cinema Audio Society’s Career Achievement Award.

Nominated television shows will be screened the morning of Feb. 20 at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City.
