Smith ShoWest actor of year

Celeb honored with third award

Will Smith, who next stars in Warner Bros.’ July 4th weekend release “Wild, Wild West,” will be honored as Actor of the Year at this year’s ShoWest.

Smith will receive the kudos at the annual exhibitor convention’s March 9 awards ceremony, to be held at Bally’s hotel and casino complex in Las Vegas.

This is Smith’s third ShoWest award. He was honored in 1995 as Male Star of Tomorrow and in 1997 for International Box Office Achievement.

Smith’s last three films each topped the $100 million mark domestically. The 1996 release “Independence Day” was that year’s biggest release with a domestic theatrical cume of $306.1 million. His next pic, 1997’s “Men in Black,” grossed more than $250 million Stateside, and his most recent outing “Enemy of the State” has grossed about $104 million in North America.
