Dirk Shafer, who wrote and directed the mockumentary “Man of the Year” about his reign as the 1992 Playgirl man of the year, will direct “Circuits” for producer Steven Wolfe (“Twin Falls Idaho”).
Pic, budgeted at just under $1 million and to be financed privately, will begin lensing early next year.
“Circuits” focuses on one man’s decline into drugs and sex-filled world of the gay circuit party scene — which, like raves, has become a subculture in major cities across the country.
Wolfe said: “People live for this circuit scene; they travel high and low, across the country, to attend circuit events. But the story is more about one man’s realization that helps him pull out of the circuit tailspin.”
Pic is co-written by Shafer and Gregory Hinton (co-producer, “It’s My Party”).
Along with Marshall Persinger and Rena Ronson, Wolfe produced “Twin Falls Idaho.”
He also produced, with Megan O’Neill and Harold Warren, the 1999 Sundance pic “Relax, It’s Just Sex,” starring Jennifer Tilly.
