Scripters Steve Oedekerk (“Patch Adams”), Mike Scully (“The Simpsons”) and Barry Kemp (“Newhart”) will join some 120 other panelists and seminar leaders at the Maui Writers Conference over Labor Day weekend.
Also on hand at the conference — which has grown markedly in size since its founding seven years ago — will be producer Gary Foster (“Sleepless in Seattle”), columnist Dave Barry, Grade A Entertainment founder Andy Cohen, story consultant Christopher Vogler and authors Mitch Albom (“Tuesdays With Morrie”), David Baldacci (“Absolute Power”), Susan Isaacs (“Lily White”), David Wisniewski (“The Golem”) and Richard Krevolin (“King Levine”), among others.
The Sept. 3-6 conference at the Grand Wailea Resort will be preceded by the Maui Writers Retreat, a six-day event focusing on fiction and non-fiction prose as well as screenwriting. Among the authors set to lead some of the courses are Dan Millman (“Way of the Peaceful Warrior”), Terry Brooks (“The Sword of Shannara”), John Saul (“The Presence”) and Bud Gardner (“Chicken Soup for the Writer’s Soul”).
Some 60 editors, publishers, agents and film execs are also scheduled to attend, including talent manager Jonathan Baruch, from AMG; Middlefork Prods. senior VP Andy Fickman; agent Gary Pearl of William Morris; and editors from William Morrow, Simon & Schuster, HarperCollins, Delacorte, St. Martin’s Press and Hyperion.
To register, call (888) 974-8373 or (808) 879-0061 or visit the conference Web site at http://www.mauiwriters.com.
