SB fest to honor Hopkins

Thesp named Modern Master

Anthony Hopkins will receive the Modern Master Award at the 15th annual Santa Barbara Intl. Film Festival. The Modern Master Award honors actors and directors who have provided cultural enrichment through their work in film.

Hopkins, an Oscar-winning actor for his portrayal of Dr. Hannibal Lecter in 1991’s “The Silence of the Lambs,” has appeared in many critically acclaimed films such as “Howards End” (1992), “The Remains of the Day” (1993), “Nixon” (1995) and “Amistad” (1997).

“Through his choice of roles, Sir Anthony Hopkins has given us brilliant, neurotic characters, as well as characters of great humanity. The breadth and depth of his artistic talent indeed make him a Modern Master,” said Renee Missel, artistic director of the fest.

The fest runs March 2-12.
