ROME — Continuing its tradition of bestowing honors on screen luminaries from both Europe and Hollywood, the 47th San Sebastian Intl. Film Festival will present this year’s Donostia Awards for career achievement to British stage and film veteran Vanessa Redgrave and American actress-director Anjelica Huston.
Redgrave’s latest role was in her son’s (Gabriel Carlo Nero) directing debut, “The Uninvited Guest.” Huston most recently starred in and directed “Agnes Browne,” which premiered in the Directors Fortnight at Cannes earlier this year. Both films will screen at San Sebastian.
Traditionally a major focus of media attention during the San Sebastian fest, Donostia Award recipients have included such Hollywood royalty as Bette Davis, Robert Mitchum, Lauren Bacall and Lana Turner.
Recently, the fest has begun turning its spotlight on a younger generation of stars including Al Pacino, Michael Douglas, Susan Sarandon and John Malkovich and European thesps such as Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Deneuve and Jeremy Irons. The event this year runs Sept. 16-25 with the full competition lineup expected to be announced early next month.
