Destination Films has acquired Adam Rifkin’s project “Rock Stars Don’t Take Finals.”
Rifkin, who wrote “Small Soldiers” and “Mousehunt” among other films, is co-writing with Steve Bing. He will also direct.
Rifkin’s latest stint as a director is the upcoming New Line release, “Detroit Rock City.”
“Rock Stars” is a comedy centering on two pre-med students swept away the night before their medical exams by the world’s greatest rock star. The students wind up on a whirlwind night in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Destination has, Rifkin said, “a great sense of comedy and (is) a company that allows writers and directors tremendous creative freedom.”
Destination’s Jenkel stated: “With ‘Detroit Rock City,’ Adam has proven that he is exceptional at handling this genre. We are fortunate to have his next film.”
The film will be produced by Destination’s Jenkel and Brad Wyman. Rifkin and Bing will exec produce along with Cassian Elwes and Brillstein-Grey’s Peter Saffron and Marc Gurvitz.
Jack Bloom of Bloom Hergott Cook Diemer & Klein, along with the William Morris Agency, brokered Rifkin and Bing’s deals.
Neil Sacker, exec VP of legal and business affairs, handled Destination’s side of the pact.
