Revisiting what has become a highly successful franchise for cable TV and actor/comedian Sinbad, the fifth installment of “Sinbad’s Soul Music Festival” will be televised Aug. 20.
The PPV spec encapsulates three days of R&B music at the Lionel Roberts Stadium on the island of St. Thomas during Memorial Day weekend. Show, which boasts perfs from Smokey Robinson, Chaka Khan, the Stylistics, Morris Day and the Time, and the Gap Band, among others, will be presented by Budweiser and Kmart. Latter will offer its customers coupons for $5 off the PPV telecast.
Success of the spec has attracted Founders Bank, the largest African-American owned financial institution, which financed the spec.
The oft-repeated TV program brings viewers the sights and sounds of the Virgin Islands. If fans miss the initial broadcast, Spring Communications will provide encore runs of the concert throughout the month of September via Viewers Choice 2, DirecTV, TVN and other local cable systems nationwide.
Guided by the response of the fourth seg, Spring execs said more than 50 million viewers are expected to tune into the fifth show.
“Sinbad has brought together an unbeatable musical powerhouse for this year’s annual festival,” Spring Communications prexy John Rubey said.
