Christian Bale has landed the role of a baddie-on-the-lam in Paramount’s remake of ’70s detective pic “Shaft” from director John Singleton and producer Scott Rudin.
With Samuel L. Jackson set to star in the title role, Bale will play the killer of a young black man who is, along with Shaft, pursuing one of the eyewitnesses to the murder.
Bale will next be seen in the Lions Gate pic “American Psycho” directed by Mary Herron based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis. Bale is repped by CAA.

Musetta Vander, last seen in Warner Bros.’s “Wild Wild West,” has inked to join Jennifer Lopez and Vince Vaughn in New Line’s “The Cell.”
Vander has recently wrapped the Coen brothers’ latest project, “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” and will appear in MGM’s upcoming “Molly” opposite Elisabeth Shue. She is repped by manager Richard Kerner of Doxon Entertainment.

Ashley Johnson joins Rick Johnson, Mare Winningham, Michael Papajohn, Zachary Ty Bryan and Meatloaf in Grabba-bat Prods.’ “Rustin.”
Johnson will play a young girl whose extremely religious mom kicks her out of the house in retaliation for her less-than-pious ways. Story unfolds as Johnson lands on the doorstep of her estranged father in the small town of “Rustin.”
Pic, written by Jon Lucas, will be directed by ex-football player and Rick Johnson, who also co-stars. Molly Mayeux produces.
Johnson will appear in Wayne Wang’s “Anywhere But Here,” starring Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman, and appeared in TriStar’s “Dancer, Texas Pop. 81.”

Dash Mihok and Josh Hopkins have been cast in Warner Bros.’ “The Perfect Storm” opposite George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and Diane Lane.
Wolfgang Peterson (“Air Force One,” “In the Line of Fire”) directs the pic about a doomed fishing adventure, based on the Sebastian Junger bestseller. Mihok and Hopkins will play rescuers sent in to save the passengers on board the troubled ship.
Mihok has had roles in Baz Luhrman’s “Romeo and Juliet” and Terrence Malick’s “The Thin Red Line.” He is repped by Endeavor and Handprint Entertainment.
Hopkins’ credits include “G.I. Jane” and TNT’s “Pirates of Silicon Valley.” He is repped by the Gersh Agency and Handprint Entertainment.

Andrew Levitas has landed a recurring role on the Fox drama “Party of Five.” He will play a high-school student and potential love interest for Claudia (Lacey Chabert).
Levitas recently wrapped “Psycho Beach Party” with Thomas Gibson and Nicholas Brendan. He is repped by Karen Forman at the Metropolitan Talent Agency and manager Sara Ramaker of Evolution Entertainment.

Stan Shaw has been cast in TNT’s “Freedom Song,” starring Danny Glover, Loretta Devine and Vondie Curtis Hall.
In “Freedom,” directed by Phil Alden Robinson (“Field of Dreams”), Shaw will play a young man committed to a nonviolent fight against the Jim Crow laws of 1950s Mississippi.
Shaw’s previous credits include the Sylvester Stallone starrer “Daylight” and “Snake Eyes” opposite Nicolas Cage. He was repped on the deal by Karen Forman and Tony Chargin at Metropolitan Talent Agency.

Elisabeth Rohm is set to join the cast of the WB’s new skein “Angel,” the darker, more adult spinoff of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” starring David Boreanaz in the title role.
Rohm will play a detective who teams up with Angel on his quest to save lost souls. Rohm most recently completed the BBC mini “Eureka Street” and appeared in NBC’s “The ’60s.”
She is repped by Paradigm and Brillstein-Grey.
