Disney, Bel Air miss pail of Cage
Paramount Pictures and Lynda Obst Prods. have paid a mid-six-figure sum to acquire Hunter Richards’ spec script “Jack and Jill,” to which Nicolas Cage is attached as star.
Par beat out several other bidders, including Warner Bros.-based Bel Air and Disney, to buy the project about a corporate hatchet-man who rediscovers his humanity when he falls in love with a schoolteacher.
Obst will produce along with Bonnie Timmerman and Paul Davis-Miller. Cage and Richards are exec producers.
Obst, who signed a joint deal with Par and Lakeshore in January, recently moved her seven-person production company into new offices on the lot.
Earlier this month, Par picked up Sean Desmond’s unpublished first novel “Toys of Desperation” for Obst.
Richards was repped in the deal by CAA.
