Paramount Pictures has paid in the mid-six figures for Elizabeth Hunter’s spec script, “The Fighting Temptations,” which MTV Films will produce with Benny Medina.
Rap star Puffy Combs also has expressed an interest in coming on board to produce both the film and its soundtrack.
Pic is described as a “Soul Food”-style comedy set in the world of gospel music. A hip-hop producer returns to his hometown in Alabama for his aunt’s funeral only to learn that he must start a gospel choir in order to gain his inheritance.
MTV Films director of development Elysa Koplovitz brought the project to MTV prexy David Gale.
Hunter, who was a former development executive at Universal Pictures, recently penned a TV pilot for VH-1 called “Couch Potatoes.”
ICM’s Doug MacLaren
, Matt Solo and Jenny Fritz brokered the deal for Hunter. Shawn Hopkins of Visionary Entertainment is her manager. Attorney Matt Johnson was also involved.
