The inaugural Women’s Image Network (WIN) Femme Film Festival, honoring positive portrayals of women in the performing arts, will take place Aug. 23-24 at Paramount Studios.
Advance winners include best short film “Sunspots,” a Barbara Albert work about two young women living on the edge of a city; best documentary film “Speaking in Strings,” a profile of the violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg directed by Paolo di Florio; and best feature film “Valerie Flake,” a work helmed by John Putch which depicts a widowed woman who allows love back into her life.
Along with screenings, fest will include a pitch session where selected writers have two minutes to present their ideas to a panel of agents, producers and network and studio execs.
Sponsored by companies such as Blockbuster and Paramount Pictures, advocates of the fest include Andie MacDowell, skedded to appear at the event, and Anjelica Huston, Sharon Stone, Lynn Redgrave and Jacqueline Bisset.
