Intermedia to handle overseas sales
With Buena Vista Film Sales no longer financing Destination Films’ “The Wedding Planner,” Pacifica Entertainment has stepped in to bankroll the film — estimated to have a $35 million budget — while Intermedia will handle overseas sales.
Destination is distributing domestically. Pic, which stars Brendan Fraser and Jennifer Lopez, will begin lensing in January. It had been slated to shoot this November.
BVFS recently parted ways with Destination due to creative and budgetary reasons, leaving the door open for Pacifica, in conjunction with Intermedia, to step in.
Intermedia and Pacifica previously were allies on Intermedia projects such as “Clay Pigeons” and “Where the Money Is.” And it is the second alliance between Destination and Intermedia, which is handling international distribution for Destination’s “Whipped.”
Pacifica co-prexy Moritz Borman said: “Intermedia’s Nigel (Sinclair) and I are looking forward to continuing close cooperation between our companies. We are also happy to be working on ‘The Wedding Planner’ with Destination.”
Pacifica is a Hollywood-based company backed by the IMF, a German private investors group.
Intermedia recently picked up international distribution rights to “Therese Raquin,” based on Emile Zola’s 19th-century novel and starring Kate Winslet.
Destination’s first release, “Bats,” is due in theaters Friday.
