Movieline joins awards derby

1st annual Awards show to be held in Santa Barbara

Movieline magazine has decided to get into the awards game.

The first annual Movieline Awards, which the mag is calling a tribute to emerging talent in film and music in 1998, will be held March 13, during the Santa Barbara Intl. Film Festival.

Movieline CEO Anne Volokh had been “contemplating an annual awards program to spotlight remarkable new talent,” she said. “With the barrage of groundbreaking and career-making accomplishments in film and music during the last couple of years, we knew the time had come.”

Some of the awards will be selected by the mag’s editors, while readers were asked to vote in six categories involving performers. More than 5,000 Movieline readers responded, Volokh said.

Additional awards will be given to filmmakers, composers and screenwriters during the ceremony at Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort in Santa Barbara.
