Musician Ray Manzarek of the Doors is making his feature directorial debut on “Love Her Madly,” an indie pic about the love, madness, obsession and murder surrounding a captivating female drama student. Jennifer Lothrop is set to star as the campus vixen who becomes the model and artistic muse of a sculptor.
Producer Rick Schmidlin, who has previously worked with Manzarek on long-form videos of the Doors, originally discussed the idea with the director before Manzarek developed it into a screenplay with co-writer Rick Valentine. Despite its name, the digitally shot “Madly” bears no other similarity to the Doors’ song of the same title.
Schmidlin did last year’s re-edit of Orson Welles’ “Touch of Evil” for Universal and is reconstructing the 1924 MGM pic, “Greed.”
Lothrop, who makes her feature debut with “Madly,” is repped by Michael Greenwald and Neil Bagg of Don Buchwald & Associates and manager David Sweeney.
