Thomas Schatz has been tapped the first professor at the new Los Angeles Film School.
Schatz, current chair of the radio-TV-film department at the U of Texas at Austin, has taught for the past 23 years. He has penned four books, including the film theory staple “Hollywood Genres: Formulas Filmmaking and the Studio System” (1981), and contributed to such publications as the New York Times, Premiere and the Nation. Additionally, Schatz has served as a consultant to TV producers and writers in Italy, Switzerland and Finland. The Los Angeles Film School is a one-year professional training program in motion pictures, TV and new media.
