Marty Katz Prods., which recently signed a first-look deal with Dimension Films, has optioned the screenplay “Silver Metal Lover” by Randal Kleiser, based on Tanith Lee’s novel “The Silver Metal Lover.”
The scribe will be paid a low six-figure sum and, although no contract has been signed, he is attached to direct. If that deal goes through, he will receive a seven-figure payday.
Producers are Marty Katz and Frederick Levy. Katz recently produced “Reindeer Games” with Chris Moore for Dimension and has started production on “Imposter,” starring Gary Sinise and Madeleine Stowe and to be helmed by Gary Fleder (“Kiss the Girls”) for Dimension.
Katz also received a consulting producer credit on “Titanic.”
Kleiser is best known as the director of the feature film “Grease,” as well as such movies as “The Blue Lagoon,” “Flight of the Navigator,” “White Fang,” “Honey I Blew Up the Kid” and the telepic “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble” starring John Travolta.
Katz Prods. veep Levy brought the project into the company. Dimension prexy Cary Granat and veep Dan Gross will oversee its development.
Agent David Saunders of APA negotiated Kleiser’s deal along with Alan Hergott of Bloom, Hergott, Cook, Diemer and Klein.
Dimension was unable to confirm Kleiser’s end of the pact.
