'Mary' alums may reunite for 'Date'

Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz, whose hellish first date sparked belly laughs in last summer’s “There’s Something About Mary,” may revisit the subject in DreamWorks’ romantic comedy “Date School.”

Stiller and Diaz are in talks to star in the project being produced by Stiller’s Red Hour Films and Beau Flynn and Stefan Simchowitz’s Bandeira Entertainment, according to insiders. Talks are also under way with helmer Greg Mottola (“The Daytrippers”) to direct.

The project, tentatively scheduled for a September start, is based on Daryl Chen’s Mademoiselle article “I Went to Date School,” which DreamWorks bought for Bandeira last year (Daily Variety, March 28, 1998). The story profiles First Impressions, a New York-based service that sets up clients on a simulated rendezvous and then critiques their dating skills.

Adam Goodman and Suzanne Jurva are the DreamWorks execs on the project.
