Columbia TriStar Film Distributors Intl. has reached a multiyear agreement with Andes Films for theatrical distribution in Chile and Peru beginning Jan. 1.
The deal, which includes an option to renew, calls for Andes Films to release all films produced and acquired by Sony Pictures Entertainment in the two territories. Currently, CTFDI’s distribution in Chile is handled by Conate while United Intl. Pictures acts as its agent in Peru.
Andes is headed by Giovanni Gentili, who has held various posts within Columbia TriStar’s Latin America operations over the past 20 years, and Jose Patricio Daire of Conate. Andes is an equal partnership between Gentili’s Inversiones G&G and Daire.
“These are complex markets with great potential for growth; Giovanni’s wealth of knowledge and experience will no doubt position us to maximize our future revenue in Chile and Peru. His knowledge, professionalism and team spirit make him an invaluable business ally and friend,” said Ralph Alexander, CTFDI senior vice president, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Alexander noted that exhibitors have built new facilities and upgraded existing sites in both territories over recent years, laying the groundwork for significant gains in moviegoing as the region’s economy improves.
