A group of world-class cinematographers that includes Vittorio Storaro, Robby Muller, Carlo Di Palma, Dean Cundey and John Bailey will address the challenges of digital filmmaking and digital electronic distribution of motion pictures during a panel titled “The Art of Cinematography Challenging New Technologies,” being held Sept. 5 at the Excelsior Hotel in Venice.
The discussion is being organized by CamerImage, a Poland-based organization dedicated to the visual aspects of filmmaking, in collaboration with the Venice Intl. Film Festival. Each year in late November, CamerImage conducts an international pic fest in Torun, Poland, dedicated to the art of cinematography — the only event of its kind in the world.
Of the panel, CamerImage rep Christopher Wojciechowski states, “We don’t have to be afraid of digital electronics.” The object of the discussion will be to introduce the public to the new and rapid changes of technology in the industry.
Other panel members will include cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle, producer Ulrich Felsberg (“Buena Vista Social Club”) and representatives from such companies as Sony, Kodak, Philips, Technicolor and Real Image Digital.
