Feig to produce film

Artisan Entertainment has acquired television scribe Evan Katz’s feature script “The Auteurs” for a low against mid-six figures.

Pic will be produced by Erik Feig (“I Know What You Did Last Summer”), who has a deal with Artisan.

“Auteurs” is a comedy about two goofy gangsta wannabes who make a student film to cover up an elaborate heist.

Said Katz: “I love what Artisan does. It’s the right place for my movie.”

Katz is based at Paramount Television, where he has worked with prexy Garry Hart and senior veep of drama development Kathy Lingg for the past five years.

He was a producer on “JAG” and under his Rego Park Film & Television banner created and exec produced “Three” for the WB and “Special Unit II” for the Fox Network. He is currently developing a show at UPN.

At Artisan, production prexy Jon Shestak and executives Caitlin Scanlon and Cybelle Greenman will shepherd “The Auteurs.”

Artisan recently purchased the book “Sideways,” which Alexander Payne will adapt and direct.

Forthcoming Artisan productions include “Soul Survivors” starring Wes Bentley and newcomer Melissa Sage Millard, and “The Way of the Gun” starring Ryan Phillipe and Benicio Del Torro.
