In an effort to both promote his upcoming album and reach out to his younger-skewing fans on the Internet, comedian Adam Sandler (“Big Daddy”) on Monday said he plans to broadcast a six-minute animated pic entitled “The Peeper” exclusively on Warner Bros. Online in September.
The move marks the first major step by a star of Sandler’s standing to distribute programming exclusively on the ‘Net.
Based on a skit from Sandler’s upcoming CD, “Stan and Judy’s Kid,” the short will bow Sept. 3 on four Web sites: adamsandler.com, warnerbros.com, wbr.com and acmecity.com. Warner Bros. Records is releasing the album Sept. 21.
“If someone wants to see this animated short, I want to give them the ability to watch it whenever they get the urge,” Sandler said. “Long live the Web!”
Animator Tom Winkler, who worked on “The Simpsons” created the short.
Sandler also is officially launching his first exclusive fan community in AcmeCity, the 400,000-member entertainment home page community, a joint venture of Warner Bros. Online and FortuneCity.com.
“We’re pleased that Adam Sandler has chosen the Web as the medium for showcasing his latest work,” said Jim Moloshok, prexy of Warner Bros. Online. “A Web-animated short is the perfect vehicle for Sandler’s unique breakthrough brand of humor.” Warner Bros. Online also said Monday it will begin broadcasting live-action shorts from AtomFilms through channels on its upcoming Entertaindom hub (Daily Variety, Aug. 23).
