Trib buys Premier DataVision

Distrib to launch movie showtime search service

Tribune Media Services said Wednesday it has acquired Premier DataVision Inc. (PDI), a leading distributor of movie showtime data and advertisements in the U.S., and has joined with the company to launch the online showtime search service MovieQuest.

Premier DataVision provides the showtime data for MovieQuest, a movie listings service providing showtime listings and reviews for more than 24,000 movie screens nationwide.

MovieQuest is available through links from, TVQuest on America Online and nearly 300 newspaper partners that currently have Web sites co-branded by TVQuest.

The combined resources of the two companies are expected to help establish TMS as a major distributor of entertainment information in print and online by adding movie listings to TMS’ lineup of TV listings products.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Golden, Colo.-based PDI produces and distributes more than 2,000 movie showtime newspaper advertisements each day, and collects stars’ names, genre classifications and synopses. It also supplies movie showtime data to such companies as Hollywood Online, the Los Angeles Times and the Boston Globe.

PDI will continue to operate under its existing management team as a division of TMS, under PDI prexy and founder Blane Newton. Operations will remain in Golden.

Chicago-based TMS’ database holds information on more than 60,000 movies collected and archived for its TV listings product family.
