Kevin Mayer has been tapped senior veep of Buena Vista Internet Group, a division of the Walt Disney Co.
In his new position, Mayer will be general manager of all BVIG international businesses, including a collaboration with Infoseek Corp. in the management of the GO Network portal internationally.
Mayer will also oversee BVIG’s strategic deployment of broadband and enhanced television services.
He will report to Jake Winebaum, chairman of BVIG, who made the announcement Monday.
Mayer joins BVIG from his previous post as senior veep, strategic planning, at Disney, where he held overall strategic planning and business development responsibilities in the technology/new media arena.
Mayer played a key role in the creation of several existing BVIG businesses, including Disney Online, ABC Internet Group and ESPN Internet Ventures. BVIG was formed in 1997.
“Kevin has been instrumental in the development of our overall Internet strategy and the development of most of our existing Internet properties, including GO Network,” Winebaum said.
Prior to joining Disney, Mayer was a management consultant with the LEK Partnership in Los Angeles.
