HOLLYWOOD — Underscoring the Web’s arrival at Cannes, Global Media Corporation, the online e-commerce company, has announced itself as the first Internet exhibitor at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The British Columbia-based company will unveil its Internet technology at the MITIC (Marche International des Techniques et de l’Innovation du Cinema) new-media pavilion at Cannes.
Global Media plans to partner with indie film companies at the festival for the sale of homevideo cassettes and DVDs. The company has acquired a growing library of books, CDs, videos and streaming videos that it distributes through a network of online licensees and affiliates.
Signing with DDA
Global Media has also signed with entertainment technology praisery DDA MediaTek to guide the company’s launch at Cannes.
DDA Media Tek prexy Rex Weiner said, “The new MITIC pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival is the perfect platform for Global Media to demonstrate how the Internet is opening new revenue streams to the international entertainment industry.”
Other Internet companies are also expected to exhibit at Cannes this year. At last year’s fest, Excite, Microsoft and Filmscouts were among the few Internet companies making their presence felt at Cannes.
