In a move that creates one of the largest Avid rental and support firms, Four Media Co. said Tuesday it has merged the non-linear divisions of indie rivals Video Symphony and Encore Nonlinear Group, which it acquired last year.
The two companies, based in Burbank and Hollywood, will operate under the newly-formed Burbank-based Digital Symphony banner, effective immediately.
Encore will remain operational as a commercial television and film services post- and f/x house.
Together, Digital Symphony will feature 90 Avid editing systems, hundreds of storage drives, 15 cutting rooms, with 10 located in Hollywood and five in Burbank.
The company plans to add several more cutting rooms on the Westside, but a location has yet to be determined.
Video Symphony will retain its Digital Doctors, technical support division in the new operation, comprised of 16 Avid-certified technicians.
Additionally, the company will become part of Four Media’s television group, headed by former Encore CEO Larry Chernoff. Other group members include post houses Digital Magic, Encore Hollywood, Encore Santa Monica, Company 3 and Anderson Video.
