Former NBC Interactive VP, G.M. to guide software co.

CHICAGO — Fledgling broadband company Arepa.com has hired former NBC executive Vincent Grosso as its CEO.

Grosso was most recently VP and general manager of NBC Interactive, where he helped the Peacock create a network of more than 100 local affiliate Web sites.

Previously, Grosso was with AT&T for two years, most recently as president of the company’s Downtown Digital Solutions Division.

Service for broadband

The Cambridge, Mass.-based Arepa.com is developing a service designed for use over broadband distributors such as @Home. Arepa.com’s system will offer users click-and-play access to video-rich software in areas dubbed kids, lifestyle and games.

The company’s investors include Cisco, Motorola, MediaOne, Intimi and institutional investors Fidelity and Venrock.

Grosso said he hopes Areba.com’s products will entice people to sign up for broadband service.

Areba.com has run trials with MediaOne and is currently testing its service with @Home and SingaporeOne.
