Media group ranks growing

Geraldine Laybourne, who continues to slowly staff her recently launched Oxygen Media, has hired Giselle Benatar as executive producer of, the company’s online division.

Benatar, who will officially start at Oxygen in mid-January, joins the start-up from Teen People Online, where she was the editor of the Time Inc. product.

Prior to her stint at Teen People, Benatar ran Style Channels on America Online.

Benatar’s resume includes many other jobs in journalism, including writing for Entertainment Weekly and Vogue.

Benatar is the second journalist Laybourne has hired in recent weeks. In December, Oxygen hired Sarah Bartlett, assistant managing editor of Business Week, as the new company’s senior VP.

Oxygen Media owns several female-targeted Web sites and plans to launch a female-skewed Oxygen Channel in 2000. Laybourne has enlisted Oprah Winfrey and Carsey-Werner-Mandabach to invest in her venture.
