AOL’s bows playlist

Mammoth, K-tel among companies to offer free tracks

America Online-owned has bowed a free downloadable music service, offering more than 1,400 tracks from AOL partners, including and DreamWorks Records.

Launched Wednesday, Spinner’s “Playlist-To-Go” tunes in its approximately 1.7 million users a month to the most popular downloads on the ‘Net and allows them to create personal song lists.

The free tracks, also provided by companies K-tel, Razor and Tie, Mammoth, Knit Media, Fastmusic and Mixx Entertainment, should play on most MP3 players.

“Playlist-To-Go is the next step in our strategy to create the best and most comprehensive offering of online music available anywhere,” said AOL interactive properties prexy Ted Leonsis.

The new download service will add to Spinner’s current offering of 120 online music channels delivering more than 300,000 digitized songs.
