A&E creates Internet unit

Interactive division taps Heymann as g.m./sr. VP

A&E Television Networks has created a new division, AETN Interactive, and has named Thomas Heymann as its senior VP/general manager.

Heymann had been veep, AETN Enterprises, where he oversaw Biography Magazine, A&E Home Video, Biography Books, CD-ROMs, music CDs, new consumer catalogs and numerous Web sites.

In November, AETN joined Hearst Interactive Media, Mattel, Thomas H. Lee Partners and Weston Presidio Capital to form a new company called Genealogy.com, designed to capitalize on a growing genealogy technology marketplace.

“Tom has played a critical role in the growth of A&E Television Networks,” said Whitney Goit II, executive vice president, A&E Television Networks. “Under his leadership, AETN Interactive will continue to exploit opportunities in the Internet and interactive television markets, and ensure that our company maintains its position as the leader in quality entertainment television and related media products in every market we serve.”

Prior to joining A&E in 1992, Heymann was senior consultant, new business development, Lifetime Media Television. He also has held management positions with Lorimar Home Video.
