NICARAGUA

Satcaster Galaxy Latin America launched its DirecTV service in Nicaragua las week.

Galaxy Nicaragua, a partnership between the Cisneros Group (co-investor in the regional platform with Hughes Electronics) and Grupo Pellas, a leading Central American conglomerate is providing the DTH service.

Already available to the biggest markets and present in 27 markets in Latin America and the Caribbean, DirecTV will soon launch in Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay and the remaining territories in the region.

CZECH REPUBLIC

The first edition of the Bratislava Film Festival, which replaced the Forum Film Festival, opened Tuesday with the Bratislava premiere of Matej Minac’s “All My Loved Ones.”

The Holocaust-era film has also been chosen as the official Slovak entry for the Oscars and the Golden Globes.

LATIN AMERICA

Ritmoteca.com, which bills itself as the first e-tailer to feature only Latin music for download previews and purchase, launched Thursday.

Founder and president Ivan Perron, who led the development and launch of MTV Networks Latin America’s Web site, is backed by investment company South Beach Venture Partners and other individual investors.

Ritmoteca has signed agreements with major and independent record labels representing catalogs of Latin performers from a variety of genres, such as pop, salsa and tejano. It has signed exclusivity agreements with labels such as RMM Records, whose catalog includes Celia Cruz, Tito Puente and Marc Anthony.
