UPC buys out rival Intercomm

Move follows TW takeover

UPC, the Netherlands-based cable operator of U.S. origin, has bought out its American rival Intercomm’s network of 25,000 French clients.

The purchase for an undisclosed sum follows UPC’s $71 M takeover of Timer Warner’s 73,000-subscriber French cable network in April of this year, and gives Europe’s biggest cable operator a total 327,000 clients in France.

UPC is still well behind France’s top three cable operators Lyonnaise Cable, with 720,000 subscribers, France Telecom Cable with 703,000 and NC Numericable with 693,000.
