Universal Music Publishing has tapped industry vet Tom Sturges as exec veep of creative affairs.
In the newly created post, the former Chrysalis Music Group prexy will be charged with overseeing the operations of the L.A. and Gotham offices.
He also will shepherd new talent acquisitions and catalog exploitation, and work closely with the publisher’s staff writers and artists. His nod had been expected (Daily Variety, Aug. 12).
“Tom brings with him an entrepreneurial spirit and a great knowledge of music publishing,” said David Renzer, prexy of Universal Music.
Prior to Universal, he was veep and general manager of Shaquille O’Neal’s Twism Records and part of Management Plus Enterprises.
At Chrysalis, Sturges inked the Smashing Pumpkins, the Chieftains and Billy Idol, and had chart-toppers with Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion, among others, with tunes penned by Chrysalis inkedscribes.
